Pandemic forces delay to celebrating milestone.

UNION LAKE, Mich. – (August 9, 2021) – The American Collegiate Hockey Association, the governing body for non-varsity college hockey across the United States, is pleased to announce that it will celebrate the 30th Season of ACHA Hockey during the upcoming 2021-2022 season.

Founded in 1991, the ACHA was prevented from celebrating its 30th Season in 2020-2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the limited number of ACHA programs that were actually able to take the ice during the 2020-2021 season. However, with institutions returning to in-person classes for the upcoming school year and most ACHA programs making preparations to resume play in 2021-2022, the ACHA will celebrate its 30th Season of hockey albeit one year later, thus the “30ne” moniker.

“A 30-year anniversary of any association or organization, which occurred for the ACHA last season, is a big deal,” said ACHA Executive Director Craig Barnett. “We had some plans in place to celebrate the three decades of hockey and the opportunities the ACHA has provided for thousands of student-athletes at the college level. But once we learned that we would not be operating close to full capacity during the 2020-21 season, we chose to hold off and celebrate this season with our entire membership.”

As part of the delayed celebration of the ACHA’s 30th Season, a special “30ne” logo was commissioned and will be utilized by the ACHA during the upcoming 2021-2022 season. In addition, the ACHA will release a special digital series through its YouTube channel in which many of the original individuals responsible for the creation of the ACHA reflect on the humble origins of the organization and the extraordinary accomplishments of the last 30 years. Participants in the ACHA’s 30ne special digital series, hosted by Rasty McGibbon, include ACHA Hall of Fame inductees Don Spencer, Tom Keegan, Craig McCarthy, Rich Holdeman, Joe Battista, Zoe Harris, Dan Morris, Al Murdoch, and Marshall Stevenson.

“We hope our membership can celebrate the tremendous growth of the ACHA that we have experienced over the past 30 years,” said Barnett. “We also want to reflect on the early beginnings of our organization with the true “Founders” of the ACHA and all the incredible milestones that the ACHA has met along the way. We look forward to sharing some memories with different mediums throughout the 2021-2022 season!”
