Wolverines become the tenth member; begin play in Fall 2021.

The Tri-State Collegiate Hockey League is excited to announce the addition of the University of Michigan Wolverines.  The Wolverines will begin TSCHL play in the 2021-2022 season and will bring the number of TSCHL teams to ten.

Despite the 2020-2021 TSCHL Season being canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the league did not remain dormant.  Attempting to find a positive in the situation, the league commenced an aggressive search for a tenth team.  With ten teams, the TSCHL will split into two divisions.  The North Division will be comprised of Bowling Green, Dayton, Michigan, Ohio and Ohio State.  Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami (OH) and Xavier will compete in the South Division.

Prior to reaching an agreement to join the TSCHL, the Wolverines competed in the Great Midwest Hockey League which was comprised of a combination of teams from the Central and Southeast regions to include current TSCHL member Indiana University.  Michigan finished the 2019-2020 campaign with a 13-6-2 record.  The Wolverines played four games against TSCHL teams, sweeping Ohio State and splitting with Indiana.

“Our goal the past several years has been to build a conference with like-minded hockey programs and academic institutions.  For our conference to reach its full potential, it is vital that we have teams who are well organized, committed to performing at a high level – athletically, serious about academics and led by individuals who have the best interest of the conference in mind.  The Wolverines clearly meet these criteria.  By any measure, they make the conference better and their addition further cements The T as one of the premier conferences in the ACHA.  To say we are thrilled is an understatement,” stated TSCHL Commissioner Tim Driscoll.

TSCHL President Geoff Landry added, “we are excited to have Michigan join The T.  As Tim mentioned, the University of Michigan checks all of the boxes on the league’s list of criteria when considering an organization for membership.  On behalf of the executive board of the TSCHL, I would like to publicly commend Commissioner Driscoll for the countless hours he has put in and the unrelenting efforts he has put forth to make the TSCHL one of the premier conferences in the ACHA.  Since Tim was appointed Commissioner in 2018, he has taken the league to unprecedented levels.  Under his leadership, The T has added three high-caliber programs in Indiana, Kentucky and Michigan.  The TSCHL has branded itself by developing a best-in-class website, a significant social media presence, and a centralized recruiting program.  The TSCHL Tournament has evolved into a weeklong event with tournament previews, live streamed games, play-by-play commentary, and in-game interviews.  The league has sent eight teams to the ACHA Southeast Regional Tournament and two teams to the ACHA National Championship.  Additionally, the TSCHL was set to host the 2021 ACHA Southeast Regional Tournament prior to its cancelation.  Without Tim’s leadership, the T would not be in the position it is.”
