Greg Corcoran named new bench boss..

COLUMBUS, OH - The Ohio State Men’s Ice Hockey Club announced on Wednesday that Greg Corcoran will be taking over the mantle as head coach of the club.

A New England native, Greg is not a newcomer when it comes to coaching. He has done it on many different levels, from youth teams to collegiate. He has seen many of his former players develop their skills and move up in their hockey careers, including in the professional level. Prior to moving to Columbus, Greg had coached a Bantam team in South Boston, the U14 and U15 Boch Blazers AAA teams. Since moving to Columbus, he has coached the Mite level for EYHA as well as coaching at St. Charles Prep for their JV program.

“The team success is what I am most proud of, I have been fortunate to have some great players play for the teams I have coached but the journey together is always what I look back on fondly,” Coach Corcoran said  “You start out at the beginning of the season, and experience the ups and downs that come with a long season, but when the journey is over you have reached the ultimate goal as a group there really isn't anything better than that.”

Just like many players, Coach Corcoran grew up on the ice and fell in love with the sport of hockey at an early age. He grew up playing for his hometown program until he moved up to AAA. From there, he went on to play in high school hockey at Matignon High School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Greg finished his competitive playing career at NCAA Division II school, St. Michaels College in Vermont. “Every experience was great, and I learned a lot through all the years of playing. This is why I like to give back and try to pass on the knowledge that I have accumulated and also continue to learn as a coach and try to help all of the players succeed not just in the rink, but outside of it as well.” said the new OSU coach.

When asked about his expectations with his new team, he said “Obviously, we are in uncertain times in this world, and all sports leagues are up in the air as to whether or not we’ll have a season. That being said, I think we have a chance to do something really special with this group. The track record of success over the last few seasons is something that I absolutely want to build on and I think we have the group to bring the program to new heights.”

Former Ohio State Club Hockey head coach, and now assistant coach, Mark Runco, had this to say on what he thinks Coach Corcoran can do for the team, “I believe Greg can bring in the knowledge of the game to get us over the hump and make some deep runs in the ACHA tournaments. The way he conveyed to myself and the officers how he sees the game makes him an incredible asset.  The versatility he is going to be able to provide is something we have been missing over the past few years.”

When he is outside of the rink, Greg Corcoran is spending time with his wife and two year old daughter, along with their dogs. They are exploring Ohio, while also “tiring out his daughter who never wants to stop moving”. He enjoys golfing, cooking, and watching UFC/MMA. Greg also has a brother who plays professional lacrosse for the Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse.

“I can't wait to get going. I am looking forward to meeting all of the players and staff and getting started on this journey together. Go Bucks” - Coach Corcoran
